Dictionary source

Our word list is ENABLE (Enhanced North American Benchmark Lexicon), a public-domain dictionary created for word game software, containing 172,823 words. Because ENABLE was compiled before several well-known additions to official word game lists, we add a short supplement of words whose acceptance in current North American play is well documented: QI, ZA, FE, KI, OI, OK and EW. The combined list contains 172,830 words.

What we do not claim

We do not reproduce the official NASPA Word List or Collins Scrabble Words, which are licensed products. Our list overlaps heavily with the North American list but is not identical. For tournament or club play, check the official list your event uses. Words With Friends and Wordle use their own lists, which also differ.

What we exclude

Proper nouns, abbreviations, hyphenated terms and words that require capitals or apostrophes are not included, in line with standard word game rules.

How we write guides

Facts such as tile values, tile counts and bonus scores are checked against the published rules of each game. Any statistic about words, such as counts and letter frequencies, is computed directly from our dictionary when the site is built, so it always matches what the tools return.

If you spot an error, email admin@wordsolvertool.com. We review every report and update the site, and the review date at the top of each page shows when it was last checked.
