Playing the Z well
The Z is worth 10 points and, unlike the Q, it is easy to play. It combines with almost any vowel, and the short words ZA, ZAG, ZAP, ZED, ZEE, ZIG and ZIT fit into small spaces. The real skill is placing it on a premium square: a Z on a triple letter square is worth 30 points before anything else.
Look for plays where the Z sits on a premium square and forms two words at once, horizontally and vertically. That doubles the value of the tile.
