It looks your word up in the same 172,830 word dictionary that powers every tool on this site. The check runs in your browser, so nothing you type is sent to a server.
Which dictionary is used?
ENABLE, a public-domain list that closely matches the North American Scrabble dictionary, plus a few widely accepted later additions such as QI, ZA and OK. See our editorial standards for details.
Why do some words have their own page?
We write a page for words that players look up most and that are hard to trust without a source: every two-letter word, the Q words without a U and the words with no vowels. Each page gives the meaning, scores, hooks and anagrams. There are 128 so far, and we add more over time.
Is a word valid in Words With Friends if it is valid here?
Usually. Words With Friends started from the same ENABLE list but has added and removed words over the years, so a small number of words differ. Check in the game when it matters.
